Are you passionate about tackling poverty, injustice and discrimination in Bradford?

What’s the headline?

We’re looking for people to join our board of trustees. This is a voluntary, unpaid role.

What’s the context?

We want Bradford to be a fair place to live and work and are looking for people who share that vision.

Each year we help over 5,000 people in Bradford overcome obstacles preventing them from achieving their potential. We save people from being evicted, challenge unfair benefits decisions, help people manage debts, tackle complex immigration issues – and so much more.

Our free, expert advice gives people the skills and confidence they need to address their problems and move on with their lives.

What’s the ask?

The trustee board is responsible for the strategic direction and governance of the organisation – day-to-day operations are led and managed by our chief executive, with a team of paid staff and volunteers.

As a trustee, you would be expected to:

  • Attend four board meetings a year
  • Join either our finance or personnel committee, which also meet four times a year
  • Attend a strategy awayday, which is a half-day once a year
  • Shadow an adviser one day a year, to see the frontline service in action

Board meetings are generally held on a weekday evening, usually online but occasionally in person in Bradford.

The time commitment is likely to be an average 1-2 hours a week over the year.

What are we looking for?

No specific experience is necessary. The current board is made up of trustees who work, or used to work, in a variety of different jobs and roles – they all bring individual skills and experience.

Most of all we value your experience and values. So please do consider applying even if this would be your first trustee role. We will provide support to help you develop.

It’s important to us that our trustee board reflects the Bradford communities we serve, so we would particularly like to hear from people who have:

  • Direct experience of the issues and challenges our clients face, including financial insecurity, debt, insecure housing, discrimination and other issues facing disadvantaged communities
  • Knowledge and perspectives on the opportunities and challenges for local advice, advocacy and law centre services
  • Skills that can support the organisation’s ongoing development. This may include engaging in service changes, collaborative approaches to working with communities, experience in leadership or financial management roles and delivering services in the voluntary sector and other organisations.

We are also keen to maintain a diverse trustee board and would particularly welcome applications from women, younger people and people from an ethnic minority background.

You can find out more about our organisation and the services we provide through our website.

If you think you might be interested, please email admin@bradfordcab.com for further details, who will send you further details about the role and the organisation and arrange for you to have an informal chat with one of our trustees. We can also arrange for you to come to a board meeting as an observer.

Closing date for completed applications, 9am Friday 9th January 2026
